Honda Inverter Generators and a short review on the HONDA EU3000iSInverter Generator, 2600W. I have also found the maintenance video from Honda

Nothing has been quite so exciting in the generator manufacturing business as the new Honda inverter generators. Honda inverter generators give you all of the power that you need in a generator, with maximum fuel efficiency, light weight, and surprisingly quiet performance. Add to this Honda’s reputation for excellent quality, and these new generators are great news.

The Honda Inverter Generator Produces a Pure Sine Wave

Regular gas generators are fine for running certain electrical appliances, such as lights and televisions. However, for more sensitive equipment such as computers, they are usually not sufficient. Computers, printers, and other sensitive electrical equipment need a constant, even electrical signal in order to work properly. The electricity generated from regular gas generators can tend to fluctuate; (modified sine wave) not a problem for lights, televisions, or coffee pots, but a possible disaster for more sensitive equipment.

The Honda inverter generator is the solution to this problem. Using inverter technology, Honda has created a generator that contains a microprocessor that regulates the flow of electricity from the generator, mimicking the flow that would come from a regular household outlet.(pure sine wave) This regulated flow of electricity makes it perfectly safe for anyone to run a computer or printer using a Honda inverter generator, without worrying about fluctuations causing a crash in the equipment.

Another benefit of using inverter technology is that Honda inverter generators need only be about half the size and weight of conventional generators, though they have every bit as much power. The alternator is built right into the Honda inverter generator, making it much more compact and light, and giving it exceptional portability. The fuel efficiency of the Honda inverter generator is unsurpassed; one small thirty-pound model can run up to eight hours on a single tank of gas, and a larger forty-six pound model can run up to fifteen hours on one single tank. As far as noise level, the Honda inverter generators run so softly that most people would not even notice that they were in use.

Though the Honda inverter generator is extremely efficient, you still want to choose the right model for your needs. Even though Honda inverter generators are smaller and lighter than their conventional counterparts, there are still different sizes from which to choose. The standard rule does apply with Honda inverter generators: the larger the model, the more work it will do. When shopping for a Honda inverter generator, keep in mind the tasks that you will need it to perform, and buy accordingly. The salespeople and technicians at Honda should be able to help you find the Honda inverter generator that suits your purposes.

Customer Reviews

By David J. Rumbaugh
Bought this baby over 5 years ago when it first came out. I needed the 2600W for a floor model 9000BTU A/C unit. The power HAD to be smooth sine wave, like home power, not modified like most gensets. This generator fit the bill nicely. I mounted it on the rear catwalk of my Freightliner, installed a RV twist plug (3 prong)added a four-way work box with outlets and had my power! It handled the A/C unit with ease. Adding a 900W coffee maker taxed it but, it ran both seamlessly at high RPM. With the inverter it charged my batteries for my drill, my computer ran without a hitch. It was an IBM clone custom desktop. Computer, monitor and peripherals ran with no problems. The inverter allowed me run ANY digitally controlled units flawlessly. This unit WILL run a home refrigerator. I know, I tried it!

It rode on that catwalk for 4 years, through rain, snow, salty roads and intense summer heat. It quite literally took a pounding and came back for more.

On a lite load, using the Eco setting, the generator ran for almost 12 hrs. continuously. On full power, running the A/C unit, it ran for 8 hrs. before running out of gas.

Pros:
1) 4 stroke gas engine. Very quiet at Eco setting, a little more noisy at full RPM but, I slept with no problem.
2) Easy start with key, if the battery goes dead, the pull start is smooth and easy.
3) Weather-RESISTANT (not weather-proof) outer shell. All was well with the weather cover installed.
4) 120 volt smooth sine wave (house) power.
5) Easy oil changes.
Cons:
1) Will run on regular but, premium gas ensures smooth operation.
2) Uses oil. Maybe it's just mine but, I had to add oil at least twice a week when I used it every day for 8 hours. Crank case holds about 3 pints.
3) Difficult to add oil. Needed a curved spout, very narrow funnel.
4) Hard to start in extremely cold temperatures (0 degrees and colder). I attribute that to being on the back of a semi speeding down the inter-state in January in North Dakota!

Over-all, even with the cons, I give this unit a 5 star rating due to it's dependability, and durability.

Honda Got It Right September 26, 2013
By John K.
I needed basic backup power for the home. Critical circuits are the gas furnace, fridge, and 1100W microwave. A few CF lights, coffemaker, and 32" flat-screen round out the list. In summer, a 10,000 BTU bedroom A/C is included. The EU3000is spec'd out nearly perfect, price is reasonable, and Honda reliability is legendary. Pulled the trigger, and couldn't be happier. Continuous rating on the 2013 version is 2800 Watts - not 2600.

This unit does the job well, easily powering my furnace, fridge, and microwave. With all 3 running, it also powered the TV and about 80 watts worth of CF lights. My tower computer and peripherals all worked fine, no complaints from the line conditioner. Plenty of juice for the critical stuff, and a few creature comforts. We're ready for winter.

Electric start is sweet, recoil backup is as easy as it gets. Smooth-running engine w/little vibration. Nice control panel, good access for maintenance. The oil filler and drain tubes are prone to spilling oil, but a home-made aluminum tray (placed underneath) fixed that. After 43 hours of run time, not a single problem.

Noise level is unbelievably low - really. Honda leads the pack by a wide margin. Mine sits in a gen shed attached to the house. Inside the house, all you hear at full output is a low-level hum. When throttled back, it's virtually silent. And very quiet outside the house - my neighbor can't hear it. The Eco-Throttle, muffler, and cabinet design is a huge leap forward in noise reduction.

The 3.4 gal tank is good for 16 hours of run time under moderately light load. I achieved this on a mild night/day when only the furnace and fridge were run. I get about 8 hours with an 80% load, and 12 hours on average. Honda claims 20 hours max run time, but I doubt I'll see that very often. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Bottom Line: This unit is easy on the gas. Fill up at bedtime, you won't have to wake up to refuel. 7 gallons of gas could last you 2 or 3 days if you run on a frugal schedule. LP/Natural Gas conversion kits are also available.

I added a wheel kit to the unit. It's pretty heavy for it's size, but manageable on concrete or pavement. In snow, sand, or mud, forget about it - wheels are a must. If you don't move it much, you can probably get by without wheels - but don't be surprised if you change your mind later on.

This jenny ain't cheap ($1800-$2000 lowball) - but it isn't built cheap, either. For camper/RV use or a short-term home backup, it's worth every penny - yup, it's a Honda.

  3. Actually I am penetrating the blog articles from last some days, just for having the best option of generator to choose from. My need is to have exactly a ‘light weight’ but quality generator as like Honda eu3000is that you have recommended here on this blog. Thanks.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. Honda make the best engines that I have bought. I have a little honda 250cc motorcycle and after 19 years it is still usable. But, I can not edit these comments and I hope that if someone does decide to buy this generator they will use my link instead of yours. If I could have I would have deleted the link. Thanks for stopping by.
